  1. RUSS.SFT is a 12 point boldface proportionally spaced Russian (Cyrillic) soft
  2. font. Characters have been assigned to the ASCII values of their approximate
  3. English-sounding counterpart. For instance, the Cyrillic "H" character has a
  4. sound like the letter "n" in the English word "net". So the Cyrillic "H" has
  5. been assigned to ASCII 78, which is the English letter "N", rather than ASCII
  6. 72 which is the English letter "H".

  8. The batch file TESTFONT.BAT will print out a two page sample showing the
  9. characters defined for each ASCII value. The ASCII values without characters
  10. next to them are unassigned.

  12. RUSS.SFT was created by using FONTEDIT, which is a font editor for HP LaserJet
  13. soft fonts. With FONTEDIT, you can change the bit map for any character in any
  14. LaserJet bit-mapped font. For instance, if you prefer to assign the Cyrillic
  15. "H" to ASCII 72 in order to be the same as the English "H", you can very easily
  16. do this with FONTEDIT.

  18. Naturally, FONTEDIT has many more features, such as:
  19.  
  20.     -  Smoothly change the point size of your bit-mapped fonts, just like you
  21.        can do with scalable Postscript outline fonts.
  22.  
  23.     -  Special effects: mirror image, drop shadow, make hollow, rotate, make
  24.        thinner, upside down, slant, tilt, resize   ...   and more!
  25.  
  26.     -  Sculpt individual pixels of a character, or regions of pixels such as
  27.        rectangular, circle, ellipse, parallelogram, or arbitrary polygons.

  29.     -  FONTEDIT does Bezier curves!
  30.  
  31.     -  Import characters from other soft fonts, or from black & white .PCX or
  32.        .TIF. For instance, you could scan a company logo and make a character
  33.        in a soft font out of it. Or make a font out of your handwriting! (I've
  34.        made a font just this way from my handwriting)

  37. FONTEDIT requires VGA/EGA/CGA/Herc, or AT&T video, and at least 256K RAM. A
  38. mouse is optional.
