RUSS.SFT is a 12 point boldface proportionally spaced Russian (Cyrillic) soft
font. Characters have been assigned to the ASCII values of their approximate
English-sounding counterpart. For instance, the Cyrillic "H" character has a
sound like the letter "n" in the English word "net". So the Cyrillic "H" has
been assigned to ASCII 78, which is the English letter "N", rather than ASCII
72 which is the English letter "H".
The batch file TESTFONT.BAT will print out a two page sample showing the
characters defined for each ASCII value. The ASCII values without characters
next to them are unassigned.
RUSS.SFT was created by using FONTEDIT, which is a font editor for HP LaserJet
soft fonts. With FONTEDIT, you can change the bit map for any character in any
LaserJet bit-mapped font. For instance, if you prefer to assign the Cyrillic
"H" to ASCII 72 in order to be the same as the English "H", you can very easily
do this with FONTEDIT.
Naturally, FONTEDIT has many more features, such as:
- Smoothly change the point size of your bit-mapped fonts, just like you
can do with scalable Postscript outline fonts.
- Special effects: mirror image, drop shadow, make hollow, rotate, make
thinner, upside down, slant, tilt, resize ... and more!
- Sculpt individual pixels of a character, or regions of pixels such as
rectangular, circle, ellipse, parallelogram, or arbitrary polygons.
- FONTEDIT does Bezier curves!
- Import characters from other soft fonts, or from black & white .PCX or
.TIF. For instance, you could scan a company logo and make a character
in a soft font out of it. Or make a font out of your handwriting! (I've
made a font just this way from my handwriting)
FONTEDIT requires VGA/EGA/CGA/Herc, or AT&T video, and at least 256K RAM. A
mouse is optional.
FONTEDIT is available from me, the author, for the low price of $30. A free
shareware demo version is available by writing to me, or by downloading file
#23442 from the IBM PC files on GENIE. To purchase FONTEDIT, send check or
money order to:
